Unbroken line
Active, visible, initiating, and rising. Yet even Yang must soften when it reaches its height.
I Ching
The I Ching does not pronounce what will happen. It reveals which forces are meeting now, where resistance has formed, and what kind of conduct could return the movement to harmony.

Your question
Instead of a yes-or-no question, ask: “What must I understand in this situation?”
Cast the coins for line 1
Lines are built from the bottom upward · 0/6
Three coins are turned together in every cast.
Primary hexagram
Emerging hexagram
The Yin face carries a value of 2 and the Yang face 3. A total of 6 or 9 creates a moving line and therefore an emerging hexagram.
Each cast uses three independent virtual coins. The Yin face is 2 and the Yang face is 3. Old Yin (6) and Old Yang (9) move; 7 and 8 remain stable.
The six lines are traditionally built from bottom to top. The primary hexagram describes the present field, the moving lines show the stages where movement occurs, and the second hexagram describes the atmosphere emerging through change.
What is the I Ching?
The I Ching reads human experience as situations in motion rather than fixed outcomes. Each hexagram is not a “good” or “bad” answer, but a living scene that describes the quality of a particular time.
Six lines build a process from earth toward heaven. The lower lines describe beginnings and inner conditions; the upper lines show visible influence, maturation, and the point at which an energy reaches its limit.

The alphabet of change
The depth of the I Ching does not come from obscure symbols, but from the limitless combinations of an exceptionally simple language.
Active, visible, initiating, and rising. Yet even Yang must soften when it reaches its height.
Receptive, carrying, inward, and form-giving. Its quiet is not passivity, but a creative field.
Heaven, Earth, Water, Fire, Mountain, Lake, Thunder, and Wind. Paired together, they form 64 fields of change.
The art of consultation
Instead of asking “Will it happen?”, ask “What must I understand in this situation?” A strong question does not surrender your agency; it makes it more honest.
Each coin cast is not merely chance, but part of a rhythm. As the lines rise from bottom to top, allow the shape of your question to shift as well.
Do not select only the first sentence you like. Read the primary hexagram, moving lines, and emerging direction as parts of a single movement.
